It's made from diatomaceous earth - the microscopic fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard shelled algae! This is a very "clean" type of dirt product, containing amorphous silica and calcium bentonite clays to retain dryness. There is less than 1% harmful crystalline silica in our FX Dirt, which makes this the perfect product when dust and dirt are required for use on set.

FX Dirt can also be used in compressed air hoppers and ejectors to create blast effects. It is non-flammable and is not sensitive to static discharge. It can be dusted onto set pieces to age a set instantly, and is commonly sifted onto wardrobe to produce that great impact dust cloud that you see during fight scenes!
