ATEN KH1508i KVM Switch

The KH1508i KVM Switch from ATEN is a high-performance, enterprise-grade solution designed to give a single operator seamless control over up to eight computers—PC and/or Sun systems—and serial terminal ports, all from a single console. Built for local and remote operation, this switch leverages an integrated IP connection to deliver secure, centralized access across data centers, server rooms, and lab environments. Its scalable, daisy-chain capable architecture means you can extend your KVM reach with non-IP switches such as KH1508 or KH1516, creating a flexible, future-proof management fabric for growing infrastructures.

  • 8-port KVM access for PC and Sun systems: Manage up to eight computer hosts from one console, enabling efficient data-center operations, troubleshooting, and multi-system administration without physically switching between machines.
  • KVM over IP with integrated shared IP: Access and control your servers from anywhere on the network or over the Internet using a secure, centralized IP connection. This reduces the need for on-site presence and accelerates remote maintenance and BIOS-level interventions.
  • Serial terminal port support: In addition to traditional keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) paths, the KH1508i accommodates serial console devices, expanding management options for legacy equipment or equipment that relies on RS-232 control.
  • Daisy-chain expansion for scalable deployments: Extend your KVM reach by cascading additional non-IP enabled switches (such as KH1508 or KH1516), enabling larger configurations without sacrificing centralized control or performance.
  • Flexible installation for local and remote operations: The KH1508i is designed for easy deployment in data centers, server rooms, and IT closets, delivering reliable performance, secure access, and straightforward day-to-day administration for busy IT teams.

Technical Details of ATEN KH1508i KVM Switch

  • Ports and connections: 8 dedicated computer ports (supporting PC and Sun systems) plus serial terminal connections for extended management capabilities.
  • Remote management: Integrated IP-based access enables remote control, monitoring, and operation from a centralized management workstation or networked admin console.
  • Daisy-chain architecture: Capable of cascading with non-IP switches (e.g., KH1508, KH1516) to expand the number of accessible hosts while maintaining centralized control.
  • Operational scope: Designed for enterprise environments where a single operator can efficiently manage multiple servers and serial devices from a unified interface.
  • Compatibility and expansion: Builds a flexible KVM ecosystem that supports both immediate eight-port control and scalable growth through expansion switches, minimizing the need for frequent hardware replacements as demands evolve.
  • Reliability and efficiency: Engineered to deliver stable performance in demanding data-center conditions, with streamlined administration to reduce downtime and improve administrator productivity.

How to install ATEN KH1508i KVM Switch

  • Plan your topology: Determine which servers (PC and Sun) will connect to the KH1508i, identify any serial devices, and decide how you will leverage remote IP access versus local console use. Consider future expansion with daisy-chained switches if your environment may grow.
  • Prepare the connections: Connect each supported host to its respective 8 KVM ports using the appropriate video, USB (or PS/2 where applicable), and any serial adapters required for your hardware. If you are using serial console ports, connect RS-232 devices to the designated serial ports on the KH1508i.
  • Connect the local console: Attach the keyboard, monitor, and mouse to the KH1508i’s local console ports so you have immediate hands-on control when needed, in addition to remote access.
  • Configure the network and management: Connect a management network cable to the KH1508i’s IP management interface, assign an appropriate IP address, subnet, and gateway, and set up administrative credentials to secure remote access. Ensure firewall rules permit authorized remote management.
  • Power on and test: Apply power to the KH1508i and connected hosts. Verify that you can select and control each of the eight hosts from the local console, then test remote access from a workstation or server management station. Confirm that serial devices respond as expected and that user permissions are correctly enforced.
  • Set up expansion if needed: If you plan to scale beyond eight hosts or want to create a larger management surface, implement a daisy-chain connection with KH1508 or KH1516 switches according to your architecture plan, ensuring proper order and addressing to maintain seamless control across the entire chain.
  • Security and maintenance: Apply any necessary firmware updates from ATEN and configure user roles, access restrictions, and logging. Regularly monitor the device health and ensure that backups of configuration settings are kept for quick recovery.

Great color saturation
I have only used this a couple of times and was concerned about the dull colors when it printed out. But the listing warns you about that so I went ahead and pressed it. Perfect! Bold colors and high quality images. Plus, filling my printer only took a little over half the bottles. Great value for the money and I will definitely be ordering again.

Superior Customer Service; 100% prefect and functional, BUT...
Number of Items: 2
This product fits perfectly, after all it's just a simple piece replacement. The big deal is the counter reset, and this is where Customer Service outstands. People complaints about the difficulty of following the reset instructions, and with reason, as they are lengthy. But that is the printer you have, that is Epson's product. You either send the printer to them and pay the premium fee, or do it yourself, but you have to play their game. This is not Seller's fault; on the contrary, Seller put all their effort to include each and every steps you need to fix the problem, no matter what printer model you have. They included most, If not all, printer models you may have. They provided super detailed instructions to ensure your success; keys where needed, no keys where not needed, printer drivers location to download and ensure the resetter will work and, best of all, support if you need it. You have to contact them through Amazon asking for the user's manual (instructions; yes, the lengthy ones), the reset program and the reset keys if applicable (this depends on you printer model; some need the reset keys, some do not). And this is where you get concerned: When are they going to answer, now that my printer is locked? You think (I did): it is weekend, they will probably answer Monday or maybe Tuesday (after all, that already have the money, why care?). Well, I was absolutely wrong, they answered during the weekend with all necessary to have the printer back, up and running; Thank You. Some tips: 1. There is nothing wrong with the software (if got from a reputable source, and they for sure are), so get it without concerns. 2. Get the printer driver as advised; it is quite probable that the software will not work if you don't install the correct driver; don't forget to restart the computer after the driver installation. 3. Make sure your printer is set up with the USB connection Enabled (mine was disabled and that caused a headache: ET-4800). 4. When the resetter instructions call for Initialize the Counters, don't do it, not yet; select Check instead, just above Initialize. If you cannot read (Check) the counters, you will not be able to Initialize them: fix the connection problem first (make sure you installed the printer driver and RESTART the computer, make sure you enabled the USB connection in the printer, and make sure the usb cable is correctly connected). It's not Seller's fault to make long and complicated instructions, that is actually their effort to make sure you have all you need to succeed. Buy with confidence, this works: if you cannot make it work, you may find someone you trust to help you out (your kids or grandkids know a lot for sure), or just let Seller know, they are willing to help you out. Best regards.
