He began his career in photography, gaining recognition with George Michael’s Faith album cover, before photographing celebrities such as Björk, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and REM. Drawing from press clippings, personal contributions from celebrities, and arrest photos, Russell transforms familiar images with new color, texture, and perspective, often revealing stars in moments of extreme simplicity or vulnerability.
