About Jowo Shakyamuni Buddha:
This statue is a copy of the Jowo Shakyamuni Buddha statue that enshrine in the main shrine of Jokhang temple in Lhasa. This Buddha statue is elaborately decorated with ornaments of Sambhogakaya Buddha.

Jowo Shakyamuni — the most sacred image in Tibet, representing Buddha Shakyamuni, housed in the Jokhang temple in Lhasa. Believed to have been crafted during the Buddha's life by the celestial artist, Vishvakarman with the guidance of the god Indra, the Jowo Shakyamuni statue originally belonged to the king of Magadha who gave it to the king of the Tang empire in China. His daughter, Wencheng Kongjo, brought it to Tibet in her dowry when she married King Songtsen Gampo.

The Jokhang is the most sacred shrine in the whole of Tibet. Situated in Lhasa, it is home to the sacred Jowo Rinpoche statue. It was completed in 647 and faces west towards Nepal in recognition of the key role played in its construction by Queen Bhrikuti, the Nepalese wife of Songtsen Gampo.

Buddha Shakyamuni  — the Indian prince Gautama Siddhartha, who reached enlightenment in the sixth century B.C., and who taught the spiritual path followed by millions all over the world, known today as Buddhism. His right hand is in Bhumisparsha mudra, meaning 'touching the earth', left hand is in meditation mudra holding a begging bowl.
