In the mid-nineteenth century, the Harvard College Observatory began employing women as calculators, or "human computers," to interpret the observations their male counterparts made via telescope each night. At the outset this group included the wives, sisters, and daughters of the resident astronomers, but soon the female corps included graduates of the new women's colleges--Vassar, Wellesley, and Smith. As photography transformed the practice of astronomy, the ladies turned from computation to studying the stars captured nightly on glass photographic plates. The "glass universe" of half a million plates that Harvard amassed over the ensuing decades--through the generous support of Mrs. Anna Palmer Draper, the widow of a pioneer in stellar photography--enabled the women to make extraordinary discoveries that attracted worldwide acclaim. They helped discern what stars were made of, divided the stars into meaningful categories for further research, and found a way to measure distances across space by starlight. Their ranks included Williamina Fleming, a Scottish woman originally hired as a maid who went on to identify ten novae and more than three hundred variable stars; Annie Jump Cannon, who designed a stellar classification system that was adopted by astronomers the world over and is still in use; and Dr. Cecilia Helena Payne, who in 1956 became the first ever woman professor of astronomy at Harvard--and Harvard's first female department chair. Elegantly written and enriched by excerpts from letters, diaries, and memoirs, The Glass Universe is the hidden history of the women whose contributions to the burgeoning field of astronomy forever changed our understanding of the stars and our place in the universe.

Dermatologist recommended
Style: Sunscreen Stick, Size: 1.5 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I did a light study on these products and this one is recommended by dermatologist with lots of good reason. There’s one dermatologist on you tube that does the most extensive and short, to the point at the same time, explanation of the different products on the market and what you want in a sunscreen. It’s worth looking it up if you used a lot of this product. She wasn’t selling anything but suggested this as one that’s the safest to use you should look that one up if it’s a concern. It’s the best and most simplified piece that I’ve seen on the subject. I recommend this one because that doctor recommended it. I still tan with it but I don’t burn. My pasty white skin likes to burn lol. It stays on with water reasonably well. I like the small package. It lasts pretty good too. I try to travel light and things like this really help. With a light load towel and a few things compact I can carry everything in a very small gym bag. This compact packing is awesome. The speedstick type applicator. The whole thing isn’t just perfect and a great product overall

Silky smooth texture, goes on easily and works well. Feels a little thick and greasy but not as much as other brands.

Great Even With Excema
Size: 0.47 Ounce (Pack of 1)
This product is amazing. I have fairly bad eczema and am a 59-year-old woman so I've had it my whole life. My lips have had bad eczema since they were sunburned 4 years ago. I had to let them heal before I could use any products but since they have healed, I have been using this product on my lips for sun protection during golf and running outside in Florida. It doesn't bother my eczema at all and in fact I think helps my lips stay moist and even helps heal them when a spot starts to occur. I have about six of them spread out in purses and cars and different spots in the house and of course my golf bag. I would highly recommend this product. It does make my lips turn white but I really could care less because of the level of protection that it provides. It's worth it and it wipes off easily with a tissue. There are many, many products that Ive tried that irritate my lips and cause a rash and this is one of the few that does not.
