Blackmagic Design URSA Gold Battery Plate

The Blackmagic Design URSA Gold Battery Plate is a professional power solution designed to integrate seamlessly with the URSA camera chassis. It allows you to use industry-standard Gold Mount (Anton Bauer style) batteries to provide long-lasting, reliable power for high-draw production environments.

In 2026, this remains the primary choice for North American broadcasters and cinema crews who prefer the secure, "snap-on" locking mechanism of Gold Mount batteries over the V-Lock alternative.

Core Functionality

  • Direct Integration: The plate is designed to bolt directly onto the back of any URSA Mini, URSA Mini Pro (4.6K, 12K), or URSA Broadcast G2 camera. It connects via a concealed internal molex-style connector, eliminating the need for external "pigtail" cables that can get snagged or disconnected.

  • Smart Data Communication: The plate supports digital battery communication. When used with compatible Gold Mount batteries, it passes accurate percentage or time-remaining data directly to the camera’s on-screen display (HUD).

  • Robust Power Output: It is built to handle the high power requirements of the URSA's 12K sensors and attached accessories (like the URSA Viewfinder or SSD recorders) without voltage drops.

Key Features

  • Internal Connection: No external D-Tap to XLR cables are required to power the camera body itself, keeping the rig clean and balanced.

  • D-Tap Port: Features a built-in D-Tap (P-Tap) output on the side of the plate. This allows you to power additional 12V accessories like wireless video transmitters (Teradek), follow-focus motors, or on-camera monitors simultaneously.

  • Mechanical Security: The Gold Mount interface is famous for its three-pin sliding lock, which is widely considered more secure than V-Mount in high-vibration environments (such as vehicle mounts or handheld sports coverage).

Technical Specifications

Feature Specification
Battery Type Gold Mount (Anton Bauer style)

Power Connector Internal 12-pin Molex
Accessory Power 1 x D-Tap (12V)
Mounting 4-screw rear-chassis mount

Installation Note

The installation is straightforward but requires a small Phillips head screwdriver.

  1. Remove the plastic protector plate from the back of the URSA.

  2. Plug the plate’s internal cable into the camera’s power port.

  3. Align the four mounting holes and secure the plate with the screws provided with the camera (or the plate).

Operational Insight

In 2026, as high-capacity 26V Gold Mount batteries become more common for large lighting fixtures, ensure you are using standard 14.4V Gold Mount batteries for this plate, as the URSA is designed for standard 12V-15V input.

Pro Tip: If you are building a "studio" configuration with the URSA Broadcast G2, the Gold Battery Plate is often swapped out for the Blackmagic Fiber Converter. However, for handheld or "eng" style work, the Gold Mount plate provides the best physical balance for the operator's shoulder.

Are you looking for a specific Gold Mount battery recommendation to ensure you get the full "time-remaining" data on your URSA screen?

Where it all starts
If you buy this you are about to start reading the greatest Batman run since... let's just say this is the greatest run on Batman. I may be over hyping this, the story arcs collected here are good on their own, but until you read the next volume and return to this one, your not getting the whole story. So it's hard to say how great this story is, and how great it gets. I would only get this if you plan on buying the other 7 Morriosn Batman books that follow this. Black Glove, RIP, Batman Reborn, Batman vs Robin, Time and the Batman, Return of Bruce Wayne, and Batman Must Die!. In that order. You'll have fun reading this run.

Visionary
If you're familiar with the work of Grant Morrison than you'll know this book was never intended to be read as a stand alone work. This is just the first few stories in a long run that culminate in Batman Inc. So, keep that in mind if you plan to jump on here. It's all or nothing. I'm always amazed with Morrison's ability to craft smart, universe encapsulating, severely polarizing stories in almost every one of his runs. His meticulous plotting, spot on characterization, and willingness to take chances are just three of the plethora of reasons to buy this book. If you like to be rewarded for paying attention and are looking for something more from your comics than "monster-of-the-week" this is for you.

I don't know, something's missing
I like the idea of Bruce Wayne being a dad - and with Ra's Al Ghul's daughter too. But is it just me or does it seem like there are gaps in the story; maybe there are other books in the story arc not in this graphic novel? When I got to the end of the book I was scratching my head saying "Is that it?" If you like Batman I suggest going to Forbidden Planet or your local comic shop and asking one of the people there to give you all the books around the arc so it makes sense.

A new Wayne
This book introduces Damian Wayne as the son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul. Bruce does not allow Damian to be Robin in this story as Tim Drake still is. Plus Bruce does not like Damian's attitude toward Alfred and Tim. This story does help to show just how talented (and violent) the future Robin is though.
