Biophon present a reissue of Biosphere's Shenzhou, originally released by Touch in 2002. This expanded reissue includes a bonus album The Samphire Tower. Paul Cooper, of Pitchfork, on the album: "Shenzhou, aside from being the name of the Chinese manned-spaceflight vehicles, means 'magic vessel', and I can't imagine a more apt description for Geir Jenssen's latest excursion into ambient deep listening.... Jenssen again relies on found sound as source material for Shenzhou, but this time, the found sound is old vinyl recordings of the orchestral works of French Impressionist composer and ambient precursor, Claude Debussy. Jenssen lifts fragments of these scratched records in a similar manner as he did for Cirque's 'Black Lamb Grey Falcon' and 'Iberia Eterea'. The ten tracks (out of the dozen on the album) that follow this model all begin as a barely audible hum, like a small electrical transformer, out of which the dust-dappled loops of Debussy's woodwind, brass, and strings emerge, condense, and fade out into pink noise rustles. Unlike Steve Reich's phase pieces or Brian Eno's Discreet Music, though, Jenssen doesn't set his loops against each other to produce juxtapositions and piquant dissonance; he uses them to describe imagined terrain, at first glance monotonously flat and barren, but on concentration, replete with minute detailing. The overall effect of these pieces is a sense of immensity. The orchestral loops sound distant, abandoned in a vast wilderness, and strenuously battling against Arctic winds. Jenssen sets the listener down in this wilderness as an aloof observer, a witness to the music's futile struggles against entropic forces. The two tracks not derived from Debussy share the same hypnotic aesthetic. The brief interlude 'Bose-Einstein Condension' is a loop of piano chords lolloping in search of coherence, while 'Gravity Assist' is a longer voyage into woofer-quaking low-frequency manipulation, bell-like drones, and contrails of subdued noise. I can't help but feel that these tracks fit awkwardly and break up the conceptual flow of the album. This, however, is a minor quibble given the power of this music. Shenzhou is unquestionably a magic vessel, but one that reveals it's enchantment only to those who pay close attention."

Helped me ace my final!
Format: Paperback
I strongly recommend this study guide to anyone who needs to understand and apply the pathophysiology in a final exam. The original book was the textbook for my pathophysiology course- it is over 1000 pages and overwhelming.
This study guide broke down the important aspects of each chapter into very doable practice questions. The answer guide at the back has perforations - so I tore mine out and it made it so much easier to follow along and study with this guide.
If you are struggling to learn/memorize/understand/apply all the pathophysiology concepts-I strongly suggest using this study guide. It really helped me get through my exam - and I am not a good test taker.
Good luck in your studies!

Helpful for exam preparation
Format: Paperback
This is helpful in getting me ready for exams. I fill it in and then study it with my other notes and resources before exams. The activities can be fun (crossword puzzle) or simple fill in the blank. I think I have found 1 or 2 errors that do not match up to the reading but I find errors in the online questions provided with the textbook as well. Helpful to absorb detailed topics. I appreciate that there are answers in the back also so I can ensure I have found the right answer. Love the section that provides hypothetical patient or family questions where I can take the knowledge and put it in layman's terms so I'm ready to explain the pathophysiology in basic terms when needed.

Important to Know
Format: Paperback
I very much like this study guide. It has helped me study for my exams. Some of my test questions have even come straight from this book. HOWEVER, I do caution anyone who buys this book to double check the answers. I have come across MULTIPLE typos and incorrect answers in the Answer Key. I like the content of this book, but for a professionally printed book, the overall completeness is poor.

Great purchase
Format: Paperback
This was a great addition to the textbook. The textbook was awful in my opinion but this study guide really explained it in a easy to understand and direct way. I love the matching, fill in the blank and most importantly the case studies. Really helps you figure out what you may encounter pathophysiology wise when caring for patients.
