Macon County, N.C. - Road CRX Records - Vol. 3 (1884-1925)Macon County was formed in 1828 from Haywood County. Haywood was formed in 1808 from Buncombe County, which was formed in 1791 from parts of Burke and Rutherford counties. Macon County will be reduced in size beginning in 1839 by forming Cherokee Co., (note that Clay will be formed from part of Cherokee) followed by the formation of Jackson Co. in 1861 (formed from part of Macon and part of Haywood), then again in 1871 for the formation of Swain Co.

Macon County was formed in 1828 from Haywood County. Haywood was formed in 1808 from Buncombe County, which was formed in 1791 from parts of Burke and Rutherford counties. Macon County will be reduced in size beginning in 1839 by forming Cherokee Co., (note that Clay will be formed from part of Cherokee) followed by the formation of Jackson Co. in 1861 (formed from part of Macon and part of Haywood), then again in 1871 for the formation of Swain Co. (part of Jackson and part of Macon). NOTE: CRX records is a designation by the N.C. State Archives which means records received from some other source Ð other than the county courthouse. These records are segregated from the other records. This author already transcribed the Macon County Road records Ð as identified in the normal county index (2-volumes covering 1828-1905). Macon Co. has the largest collection - 4-boxes of CRX road records. This book contains the remainder of box 4(the last volume). Macon County has 5-volumes of records, nearly 1500 pages.
