In the midst of the busiest years of our lives and careers, just as many of us are beginning to confront our own aging, we are likely to lose a parent--and as commonplace, even expected, as any such event may be, the reperscussions can be dramatic. This book sets out in clear and comprehensive terms what the death of a parent means to most adults--how it in fact functions as a turning point in our emotional, social, and personal lives. Drawing on her own groundbreaking research, in-depth interviews, and data collected nationwide, Debra Umberson explores the social and psychological factors that determine how this important loss will affect us--as a personal crisis or an opportunity for healthy change. Her book shows how adults, far from the "finished" beings we are often assumed to be, can be profoundly transformed by the death of a parent--in beliefs, behavior, goals, sense of self--transformed in ways that will continue to affect us, for better or worse, for the rest of our lives. Debra Umberson is Professor and Chair of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. She is the only scholar to have published on the topic of parental death in adulthood using national data, and her resume includes 36 published articles and chapters in leading academic journals and books on family and health topics. Dr. Umberson has received many awards. She won an award for her research for Death of a Parent from FIRST Award from the National Institute on Aging. Umberson's newest research, which is also sponsored by the National Institute of Aging, focuses on how marital quality changes over the life course. Umberson is currently serving as an elected officer of both the Mental Health Section and the Medical Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association (the national professional association of sociologists in the United States). She has served as deputy editor of the Journal of Health and Social Behavior and associate editor of the Journal of Family Issues. She is currently associate editor of Journal of Marriage and the Family.Binding Type: Paperback

It works and I’m happy!
Color: Red
This item is terrific! A bit noisy but it’s compact and works like a charm. Inflates my tire quickly. I have not used it to jump start my car, but I’m convinced it would work just fine. Great price too!

Good thing to keep in your trunk
Color: Red
This has been a pretty helpful thing to have in the car. My tires have been losing pressure recently and this helps keep them topped off while I wait to change my tires. It's easy to use and the value for the price is great. The main issue is that it seems to need a full charge in order to jump a car because I had issues using it to jump my car when half charge, but no issues at full. Also the cable lengths are a bit short.

Worked like a charm to jump start my Mazda
Color: Red
My Mazda CX-30 wouldn't start one day. I knew these rechargeable jump starters were a thing so I jumped on Amazon and got this one same day. Worked like a charm!
Inside the main unit is basically a giant power bank. It charges with a USB-C in, which is awesome and universally available. It even has a USB-A out port to charge another device. I charged it up to full when I first got it, even though it already had some juice in it and I *think* you'd be able to get an emergency jump right out of the box if you needed to.
The directions are simple. Plug the battery clamps into the box, then clamp them onto your battery. A green light tells you that it's ready to go. Press the BOOST button, then go into your car and start it up with in 30 seconds. Then remove the clamps and away you go. No sparks, no scary sounds, no worries. I jumped it twice and it still had enough charge for possibly a few more.
Other great emergency features: the tire inflator has programmable pressure. The light is nice and bright and stays steady for a flashlight or blinks for emergency. And I already mentioned the USB out for charging another device.
This is a great, indispensable emergency device for anyone's car. I'm glad I got it and I'll make sure it stays charged in my glove box.

Great for emergencies !!
Color: Red
This GOOLOO A3 jump starter is super handy to have in the car. It started my vehicle quickly with no issues, and it’s really easy to use.
The built-in air compressor is a big plus. It fills tires fast, and I like that you can set the pressure and it shuts off automatically.
It’s compact, holds a charge well, and feels solid. Definitely a great all-in-one emergency tool. Highly recommend!

Great little tool
Color: Red
Does at it should. It's a little loud when using it on a car tire. Was unable to jump start a dead car. Battery life is fairly decent. Good for emergencies
