Groundbreaking behind-the-scenes look into the New York art scene of the 1960s.

The New Art Scene "captures the art world at one of its most volatile and vivid peaks [and] is peppered with terrifically dashing portraits" (Roth 101).

FIRST EDITION of Ugo Mulas's classic photographic study of the vibrant New York art scene in the 1960's. Illustrated with over 500 photographs of major artists including Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and many others.

"Inspired by the strong American presence at the 1964 Venice Biennale, the Italian photographer Ugo Mulas made three extended visits to New York over the following years. The result [is this] massive, handsomely designed volume [that] captures the art world at one of its most volatile and vivid peaks...[Mulas] was ideally suited to infiltrate that scene as a sympathetic and unobtrusive observer...With more than 500 photos reproduced in heavily inked, knockout black-and-white, the book has a marvelous scope. Its arresting cover imageβ€”a pair of New York cops confronting a gaggle of bohemians at a party in Andy Warhol's Factoryβ€”isn't typical, but it suggests something of the scene's exhilaration and notoriety..." (Vince Aletti; Roth 101).

Subpar everything
Format: Hardcover
I read almost all the new Batman comics that come out...I haven't been this disappointed in a book in a LOOOOONG time. So boring. Bad art. Bad dialogue. Superficial/basic characters. No emotion. Half-baked Elseworlds universe (if you going to make some changes - make it worth it!). I could go on. When it got to the "big twist" at the end, my eyes rolled so hard I got a headache. I wish I didn't waste my money on this.

Better than the Chronicles
Format: Paperback
I hope DC keeps on publishing these omnibus series up to the silver age and also the softcover option. I much prefer these new softcover editions over the older chronicles series for several reasons. These STGA softcovers are very big almost twice the stories compared to the chronicles and at a very affordable price. Actually a very good price. Also the paper is one hundred times better, I hated the chronicles' paper. Amazon is wonderful too, they now deliver my comics to my house in Costa Rica in less than a couple of weeks, they always arrive before the scheduled time. Excellent service. The only thing to complain is the reproduction. I consider that Marvel makes better efforts than DC to restore their GA stuff. The Cory Sedlemeier books like the Marvel Comics Golden Age omnibus look like they were drawn this morning. DC is usually quite cheaper and prefers not invest in that. So we get the same results as the old early 2000s Archives. I know today it is impossible to get original art pages of action comics 1-10 But I still think that compared to Marvel DC is very lazy and a skintflint when it comes to restoring their old books.

Got it for my college class, it was a required text.
Format: Paperback
Got this book for one my college class, no joke this was a required text. But overall it was an okay read, only reason why I gave it a 4 out 5 is because I prefer to read books for enjoyment and interest, reading a book for class takes that away.
