Six Questions Your Captain D's Franchise Financial Model Must Answer

We developed this restaurant franchise business plan model using detailed research on fast-casual seafood operations. The assumptions for drive-thru, dine-in, and catering revenue streams are pre-populated with data showing a $2.1M year-one target and are fully editable to match your specific location. You can easily adjust the $1.25M in startup capital and the 4.5% royalty fees to see how they impact your bottom line.

What is the profitability trajectory?

The unit reaches profitability defintely within the first year, generating $613,000 in EBITDA during year one. As food costs scale down from 14.5% to 13.7% and revenue grows to $3.49M by year five, the store-level margin significantly expands. Profitability depends on maintaining high-volume drive-thru traffic and managing the $22,000 monthly rent burden.

Improve Unit Margins

  • Optimize food waste tracking
  • Scale high-margin catering orders
  • Cross-train crew for efficiency

How much capital is required?

To launch this seafood unit, you need a total initial investment of approximately $1,250,000. This capital expenditure planning covers the $35,000 franchise fee, $450,000 for leasehold improvements, and $280,000 for specialized kitchen equipment like fryers and grills. You should also maintain the $177,000 cash buffer identified as the minimum liquidity point during the ramp-up phase.

Major Capital Uses

  • Leasehold Improvements: $450,000
  • Kitchen Equipment: $280,000
  • Drive-Thru Technology: $220,000
  • Furniture and Fixtures: $130,000
[dynamic_pic10]

What is the return on investment?

Investors can expect a 3.95% Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and a Return on Equity (ROE) of 2.87. Based on the projected cash flows, the franchise investment ROI results in a 4-year payback period. While the initial years focus on debt service and recovery, the year-five EBITDA of $1.12M represents a strong mature-unit performance.

Key Investor Metrics

  • IRR: 3.95%
  • Payback Period: 4 Years
  • Year 5 EBITDA: $1,122,000
[dynamic_pic11]

What is the break-even point?

The franchise unit break-even analysis spreadsheet shows the store hits the break-even date in April 2026, just four months after launch. This quick turnaround is driven by the $850,000 in projected first-year drive-thru sales. To hit this point, you must maintain an average ticket that covers the 5.6% combined royalty and marketing fee burden.

Reach Break-Even Faster

  • Maximize drive-thru throughput speed
  • Implement local digital marketing
  • Monitor daily labor hours
[dynamic_pic12]

What is the cash runway?

Analyzing franchise unit operating cash flow reveals the lowest cash point occurs in July 2026 at $177,000. You need enough working capital to bridge the gap between the $1.25M build-out and the point where monthly EBITDA covers all fixed costs. We recommend a 6-month runway to handle any delays in the coastal design construction phase.

Protect Your Cash

  • Phase signage and exterior spend
  • Inventory management for seafood
  • Negotiate tiered rent start
[dynamic_pic13]

How do Low, Medium, and High scenarios change the outcome?

Evaluating franchise unit performance metrics across scenarios shows that a 10% drop in revenue significantly extends the payback period beyond 4 years. In the high-growth scenario, where catering orders exceed $571,000 by year five, the year-one EBITDA margin stays healthy despite the $31,000 monthly utility and insurance costs. Scenario planning is vital for managing the $1.25M startup budget template for retail food franchise operations.

Hit the High Case

  • Execute 'Game Day' promotions
  • Secure university catering contracts
  • Maintain 5-star drive-thru service

Exact item ordered, quick delivery
Size: 9.5, Color: Black Polished Full Grain
I ordered these black Cole Haan penny loafers for casual wear with jeans, khakies, and even business casual with slacks and a jacket. They've always worked perfectly for these uses. The Cole Haan version is the most versatile and still meets my sophisticated look criteria. I wear a 9 1/2 M with almost all other shoes. I have found Cole Haan to run slightly wider and slightly shorter. This fit will work with thin and no socks and a little loose in width. . I'd likely order a 10 N next time. I tend to forget this but it runs consistent with me for Cole Haan. 5 stars for the shoe and service. My bad on the slightly off fit.

Poor quality control - maybe outlet store leftovers
Size: 11.5, Color: Burgundy Polished Full Grain
The two shoes were not the same size. They were both labeled 11 1/2 but one shoe was larger than the other and the fit was poor. I returned the first pair and ordered a replacement. This time the shoes were close to the same size but too loose and the left one has sewing issues. I've bought Johnston & Murphy for years because of the quality. These were to replace an existing pair of burgundy penny loafers that have finally worn out (even after several heal/sole replacements). That is the expected quality. I suspect Nashville Shoe Warehouse may be handling shoes that didn't measure up for the quality; more like an outlet mall than getting the J&M quality I've come to expect. Update: went to Johnston & Murphy site to buy "direct" from the manufacturer. There were several recent reviews where the shoes were long and didn't fit properly. Genesco - please step up the manufacture / crafting of these classic shoes to the level of quality they used to have.

Way too narrow
Size: 9.5 Wide, Color: Burgundy Polished Full Grain
I ordered a wide in this shoe, but it was still way too narrow. I had to return them. Otherwise, it looked like a nice quality shoe.

I usually wear 11.5's, but I buy 1/2 size smaller to accommodate for stretch. Leather relaxes.
Size: 11, Color: Burgundy Polished Full Grain
5 STARS: These shoes are awesome. I keep coming back for more. I have major foot problems, have tried all kinds of shoes, orthotics, and inserts... but believe it or not, these shoes work better than any of that stuff. I wear them daily. I buy lots of them, for home, for church, and I'm getting my first pair of J&M boots today, for winters in Indiana... Brrrr
