Outside of the armor and weaponry Echo Base was equipped with, Hoths extreme weather granted the rebels another level of defense. Deploying troops that were trained and outfitted for combat effectiveness in extreme cold, the Galactic Empires army, led by Darth Vader, would launch an assault to destroy Echo Base.
