Throughout his career, Fairbank has engaged in professional development by presenting at local, private, and state conferences on diverse topics. His professional roles have included serving as a student teacher supervisor, a mentor and instructor in the Teacher Induction Program, and a National Presenter and Site Coordinator for Advancement Via Independent Determination (AVID).
Fairbank's contributions have been recognized with numerous district, county, state, and national awards, including the prestigious Presidential Award for Mathematics and Science Teaching. While he frequently encountered distinctive challenges in conventional learning settings due to dyslexia, he successfully identified and nurtured his inherent strengths. He embraced and capitalized on dyslexic strengths by employing creative thinking, problem-solving, visual/spatial reasoning, intuition, and dynamic reasoning. He utilized learning strategies such as multi-sensory learning, robust organizational skills, and breaking down intricate concepts into smaller, manageable steps, which he applied to assist learners of all types in achieving academic success.
