Sound sculptures and gongs by Harry Bertoia unite the sides of this split LP from Tara Jane O'Neil and Eleh. O'Neil's composition was commissioned by Venessa Renwick for her Medusa Smack video installation (originally screened in 2012 at the Oregon Biennial). The piece is partially created from sounds recorded by Bertoia on his own Sonambient sound sculptures, as well as O'Neil's recording of Athanasius Kircher's Bell Wheel at the Museum of Jurassic Technology. Eleh's side consists of 100 gongs synthesized on a Serge modular system to honor the 2015 centennial of Bertoia's birth. Vanessa Renwick recalls the conception of Medusa Smack: In the '70s I was a bike messenger in Chicago and whenever I had downtime, I would hang out in front of the huge Bertoia sound sculpture outside of the Standard Oil Building. The winds off Lake Michigan whipped his masterpiece about, clanging and banging. Years later, in Oregon, I came across a small Bertoia sound sculpture, I clasped it's rods together within my hands and released them. The exquisite noise they made immediately whispered Tara Jane O'Neil to me. I knew that someday I would make a film and Tara would incorporate this very noise into the score. Along came my idea to create a giant mother-jellyfish-shaped screen, the Medusa Smack, for people to lay beneath, with moon jellies and pacific sea nettles projected upon it. I asked Tara to create the score, and incorporate Bertoia's own sound recordings into it. Harry Bertoia's son, Val, granted his permission. This beauty to lull you away to the deep is the result. Packaged in deluxe letterpress-printed jackets. Edition of 700.

GREAT DURABILITY FOR MY XL SUPER CHEWER !
My dog LOVESSSSS this toy. It’s definitely one of her favorites! I have a Pit-Mastiff mix and she loves to chew toys, but her breed also means she’s got an outrageous amount of strength in those jaws, making it hard to find toys that can last without getting torn up super easily. We typically buy Kong “Super Chewer” toys and this has held up better than those! We’ve had it a good few months and it’s super durable. She gnaws on this thing every day for a good bit of time, and it doesn’t have any weak spots, holes, chunks missing, NOTHING, except a few dimples. It’s firm but also has give to it that (I think) really provides a good chewing option. It’s got enough weight and give to it that I can throw it for her and it’ll bounce without flying around crazy like some toys. The toy itself is not super cute, but my dog definitely is when she’s carrying it around everywhere 🥹
My only con is that I wish it came in other colors! I was surprised that she liked it so much because she typically prefers bright colored toys like red/orange/blue/green. It took some time, but once she warmed up to it and realized she could chew as hard as she wanted on it, it was game over from there.

Extremely Durable
This is truely for heavy chewers. Both my bully mixes have chewed through every bone/ball including Kong. They have had these for about 6 months and they are hardly worn. The dogs love chewing on them too. I wish they came in flavors.

Must have toy
Found out the hard way my sweet little shy rescue pup can chew through any toy in under 5 min. If it says indescribable they have never met her....until this toy. It has been almost two weeks now. She loves this thing and you cannot tell she has even tried to destroy it. If she does manage to somehow I am instantly buying another. This thing is awesome, a must have for super cheers, and she LOVES it

Not even close to "virtually indestructible" as described.
Within an hour of receiving this K9 Chew Stick, our 55lb Staffordshire Terrier began chewing pieces off the top of toy. Initially, we were happy to see that our dog enjoyed the chew toy, and it appeared to be durable. For the high cost of this toy, it is very disappointing that pieces can start coming off that quickly. Luckily, our dog wasn't swallowing the pieces, which can easily lodge in their intestines. If your dog is NOT an aggressive/determined chewer or they are happy with chewing for very short periods of time, this toy might be okay for them.
