Bodum Santos Pebo Vacuum Coffee Maker

Although the electric Bodum Santos is sadly gone forever, you can still enjoy fresh, vacuum-brewed coffee anywhere life takes you as long as you supply the heat with this stovetop model. Fill the bottom half of the Bodum Santos (AKA Pebo) with up to a liter of fresh water, put the top and bottom together, add freshly ground coffee and place on your gas or electric stove. The heavy rubber gasket creates an airtight seal that allows the steam pressure from boiling water to force water up to mix with the coffee grounds. Especially with a gas range, the temperature can be adjusted to adjust brewing times. Once removed from heat, the steam cools and the resulting vacuum sucks your coffee back down through a filter while captivating all your friends and family. Vacuum brewing your coffee is, in our opinion, the very best way to make a perfect cup of java with the French Press method a very close second, but vacuum brewing wins because the show that it puts on while you wait.

History Of The Santos

In the fifties, Peter Bodum, the father of today's owner, Jørgen Bodum, imported a French vacuum coffee maker and sold it on the Danish Market. Although he found it both unsatisfactory and expensive, he was convinced that the "vacuum brewing system" was an excellent way to brew an exquisite cup of coffee. Thus the first Bodum Santos vacuum coffee maker was born, in collaboration with Danish designer Kaas Klaeson. The Santos became the premier coffee maker of the fifties through the seventies, and even enjoyed a short-lived, but popular, stint as an electric model until steep production costs broke all of our hearts. The magic of the Santos holds both adults and children spellbound as they watch the boiling water rush from the bottom glass jug to the upper one where it gets mixed with freshly ground coffee. After a few minutes off the stovetop, a vacuum forms in the base which pulls rich black coffee through a filter and back into the bottom jug. This captivating process combines the ideal water temperature with just the right brewing time and makes for superb results. Whatever your preferred coffee and roast, the Santos vacuum system brings out the very best aromas in your cup. Alas, the Santos name will soon permanently change to Pebo, so look for both names for a while.

size is small
Color: No Stuffing Blue Eel
Smaller than I anticipated but my dog enjoys it. After 3 days it is already getting ripped a little bit where the treats get hidden so not sure how long it will last. My dog is about 40 lbs.

A winning toy!
Color: No Stuffing Blue Eel, Color: No Stuffing Blue Eel
This is the best dog toy ever! I have a Cockapoo that is 8 years old but thinks she is 2. She chews up everything so I've gone thru a lot of dog toys. This toy has lasted 6 months - truly record breaking for her. It's become all raggy so time to get a new one. Thank you Nocciola for inventing a quality fun toy that lasts. Photo shows toy after 6 mo. of playing tug of war!

Winner of the aggressive chew competition
Color: No Stuffing Blue Eel
I bought several toys for an insane Jack Russell and this is the unlikely winner. It is a softer toy, but it is stitched together nicely and there are various components that distract the dog and keep him busy. First, it can be rolled up and stuck with small but strong Velcro patches, so it’s not just a sitting duck, the dog has to figure out how to unroll it which is fun. Next there are five little pockets on one side that you can put treats inside, which draw attention to the toy and give him another task. He did partially rip some of the flaps on the pockets in his zeal to get the treats. Then there is the squeaker, which he dispatched of in like 4 seconds (somehow without ripping the fabric(?)), then there are all sorts of crinkles and textures on both sides. All of this and the good stitching make it a toy he wants to play with but that he doesn’t annihilate in one day. The hard plastic toys are also good but I feel like I need to watch him carefully for fear that a sharp chunk will come off. The medium chew toys are cool but he’s just not into them. So this wins!

My dogs favorite toy!
Color: Blue & Yellow Eel Bundle
This is my Jack Chi and Yorkies favorite toys (it helps when they get 5 mini milk bones). It is a tough toy, but not impervious to a Jack Chi determination to remove all squeekiees! Squeekie or not, it's still their favorite toy for tug-a-war.

Fun Toy
Color: No Stuffing Blue Eel, Color: No Stuffing Blue Eel
My dog loves this toy. It has 2 squeaky & also has crinkly sound along with the slots for treats. However it is not very durable. The treat slots were pretty much destroyed with the first use. I'm still giving it a 4 star because it is so fun & entertaining for my GSD.
