White Nectar is our Shou Mei (寿眉) white tea from Fujian, pressed into six individual biscuit-shaped pieces (approx. 25–28g total per tin). Shou Mei uses leaves that are larger than White Peony or Silver Needles — the trade-off is a more robust, brisk character with a hay-like quality and a honey-sweetness that comes through especially when brewed with hotter water.

Each tin features original artwork inspired by Tasmanian wildlife and native plants — choose from designs including Platypus, Wombat & Cub, Superb Fairy-wren, and Waratah & Bee. The tea inside is the same regardless of which design you pick, so go with whichever one you like best. It's one of our most approachable white teas and the tin makes it a thoughtful gift — the packaging does the work for you.

How it tastes

Brisk and fresh with a hay-like note, similar to Gong Mei but with a bit more body from the larger leaves. There's a mild sweetness that develops as you move through infusions. The individual pieces make portioning easy — one piece per gongfu session, or break one in half for a western-style brew.

A note from Joanne: "We made this as an affordable entry into white tea that also works as a gift. The biscuit shape means you just break off what you need — no measuring required. People often buy a few different tin designs at once for gifts."

Available at our Salamanca Tea Bar — come try before you buy.

Tea profile

Brewing instructions

Western brewing:
Use 1.5g of tea per 250ml teapot with 85-90°C (185-194°F) water. Steep for 3 minutes per infusion, allowing up to 3 infusions.

Gongfu brewing:
1 piece per 150ml gaiwan or teapot. Pre-warm the vessel. 95°C water, steep 40 seconds for the first 3 infusions, add 10 seconds from the fourth. Up to 6 infusions.

A note on weight

Each piece is hand-pressed in Fujian and naturally varies a little in size and weight. Pressed white tea also loses a small amount of moisture over time as part of its normal aging process, and drier climates like Tasmania's can speed that along. The weight listed is what you can expect to find in the tin. If yours seems noticeably off, drop us a line and we'll sort it out.

Storage

Store in the tin or an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Like other white teas, this will continue to mellow with time.

If you enjoy this, our Gong Mei White Tea 2020 is a similar style in loose-leaf form. Looking for something more delicate? Try our Silver Needles.

I'm sure it is a wonderful book
Format: Board book
I bought this book for my nephew. I'm sure it is an absolutely lovely book with a great message, but I have not had the pleasure of reading it myself yet. And since my sister in law is an ingrate and never writes thank you notes or calls to say, "hey, thanks for sending my kid a gift!", I really have no idea. But I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Excellent for the preschooler
Simple, straight-forward and a great follow along book for the preschool, pre-reader. We enjoyed the simple story and the more complex drawings but also the layout makes it easy for our little guy to identify particular words as we read.
